Medicine Hat, an oasis in the prairies, is located in southeastern Alberta at the junction of the TransCanada and Crowsnest Highways. The City sits smack-dab in the centre of Alberta's vast natural gas fields, prompting a visiting Rudyard Kipling in 1907 to quip that Medicine Hat was a city with all hell for a basement. The discovery in 1883 of this huge natural resource contributed to the growth and prosperity of the City. Also, an abundant supply of local clay fostered a prosperous pottery industry during the late 19th century.

Plan to tour the Clay Industries National Historic sites, especially the old Medalta plant, once a supplier of fine china for all Canadian Pacific hotels. Marvel at the Saamis Teepee, the world's largest teepee standing nearly 20 stories tall. Built for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, it now rests on a Saamis Indian archaeological site. Spend time exploring the past in the Medicine Hat Museum and Art Gallery. Enjoy swimming, boating and fishing at Echo Dale Park.

Medicine Hat accommodations include a selection of comfortable hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts and campgrounds.
