The town of Nanton, home to around 1,850 people, is located around 70 km (43.5 mi.) south of Calgary on Highway #2. Nanton is an old Alberta town, having been incorporated as a town as early as 1907. It was named after a local business leader.

Visitors can get a look into Nanton's past by taking the Historic Main Street and Antique & Art Walk of Alberta through the restored buildings and antique shops of downtown Nanton. A fully restored 1906 School House doubles as the Visitor Information Centre, open May to September. The Nanton Lancaster Society Air Museum is dedicated to Canada's Bomber Command and features a rare WW II Lancaster Bomber aircraft. There are also 2 historic grain elevators near town. Model train buffs will love the Big Sky Outdoor Layout, the largest outdoor model train set in Canada and a good display of model trains and landscaping. Nearby in the countryside visitors can enjoy sailing, fishing and camping activities at Chain Lakes Provincial Park.

Enjoy old fashioned hospitality at one of Nanton's bed & breakfasts or hotels.
