Cowley Alberta has been given the descriptions of small, quiet, scenic.  Cowley is located about 15 km (9.3 mi.) northwest of Pincher Creek and about 100 km (62 mi.) west of Lethbridge.  Cowley is on Highway 3, which leads west to BC's Crowsnest Pass.

Cowley's most recent claim-to-fame is being the stand-in town for the fictional Signal, Wyoming - the centre point of the film Brokeback Mountain.  Not surprisingly, Cowley is ranch land where most reside in the cattle and agriculture businesses.  Despite the ups and downs of the resource industries in Cowley, the Canadian Government reports that the Cowley Ridge Windplant is the first commercial windplant in Canada. Apparently as you drive into town, you can't miss it.

Cowley has history dating back to the 1860s.  There are stories of settler/native clashes, French Canadian immigration, the CPR set up in 1898, Russian Doukhobors settling in 1915, but not surviving the dirty 30s.

The local Cowley area is great for fishing, hunting, skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, and rock climbing.

Cowley Alberta accommodations includes hotels, motels, campgrounds and bed and breakfasts.
