Surrounded as far as the eye can see by vast acres of irrigated farmland and rangeland suitable for cattle grazing, the town of Brooks is situated on the TransCanada Highway in southern Alberta. An amazing concrete aqueduct, built by engineers and agriculturalists in 1915 and operating as late as 1977, was instrumental in opening up this semi-arid region and has been preserved as an historic site.

Visit the Brooks and District Museum for a look at local history including First Nations culture, pioneers, RCMP, railroading and irrigating. A short drive of 48 km (30 mi.) northeast of Brooks is the spectacular Dinosaur Provincial Park, declared a World Heritage site in 1979 by UNESCO. The Park, with its eerie, surreal, lunar-like landscape, is part of the Alberta Badlands. It's one of the richest fossil beds in the world, dating over 76 million years ago. Hike one of the interpretive trails or join a guided hike to one of the off-limits protected areas.

Brooks accommodations offer a good choice of major chain hotels, bed and breakfasts and campgrounds.
