Grande Prairie, approximately 5.5 hours north of Edmonton on Highway 43, with its gently rolling hills and rich farmland, is the administrative, agricultural and commercial centre for Alberta's Peace River country. Its agricultural roots are still strong today with the added economic diversity of oil, natural gas and forestry.

Muskoseepi Park, a Cree word meaning Bear Creek, meanders through the entire city for over 1100 acres and offers many charming delights for residents and visitors alike. Visit the Grande Prairie Museum for a fascinating look at the area from dinosaurs to pioneer times. Follow Highway 43 east to the Kleskum Hills where years of erosion have exposed dinosaur tracks and aquatic fossils dating more than 70 million years ago. Bird watchers are in for a real treat from mid-April when the symbol of Grand Prairie, the rare trumpeter swans, return to the area for nesting. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the local hiking and biking trails and picnics in the park as well as boating, swimming and fishing. Two modern theatres offer lively entertainment.

Grande Prairie accommodations include a variety of comfortable hotels, motels and inns.
