Valleyview, called the "Portal to the Peace" River country, is 345 km (214.4 mi.) north of Edmonton on Highway 43. A Hudson's Bay Post and rich soil first attracted settlers to the area, then oil was discovered in the 1950's. Today the town has about 1,856 residents, many of whom are involved in the leading industries of agriculture, oil & gas, forestry, and sand & gravel.

Outdoors enthusiasts will enjoy the northern opportunities that Valleyview's abundant forests and lakes provide. Nearby Young's Point and Williamson Provincial Parks present boating and plentiful fishing activities, beaches for relaxation, and some camping. Birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy spotting many animals including moose, elk, deer, wolf, coyote and fox, as well as a rich variety of bird species including Trumpeter Swans. The Peace River region is on the migratory waterfowl route. In winter, skiing and snowmobiling are enjoyed. In town, cowboys can be found at the Valleyview and District Agricultural Society's Annual Fair and Rodeo, or watching the Valleyview Motor Sports Club's annual Mud Bog and Tractor Pull.

Enjoy resting from your outdoor activities at Valleyview's hotels or RV/campgrounds.
