The town of Olds is located in central Alberta's heartland, around 90 km (55.9 mi.) north of Calgary and 5 km (3.1 mi.) west of Highway #2. Almost 7,000 people make Olds their home. Named after CPR traffic manager George Olds The town started life as a stop on the C-E (Calgary-Edmonton) Railway. Ranching, farming, and oil & gas are the main economic drivers of the area.

Olds College, which began in 1913, is well known as having excellent agricultural and horticultural educational programs. Explore the over 1,400 acres the College occupies, including new botanic gardens, a working farm, and demonstration plots. Or join around 18,000 other people in attending the annual Olds Fair & Rodeo, and enjoy the chuckwagon and chariot races, entertainers, and largest exhibit of horticulture and handicraft displays in Alberta. Horticultural talents can also be seen during the town's participation in the Communities in Bloom program, for which Olds was voted Best Town in Canada for their size category in 2005. In winter, Olds becomes a winter wonderland just before Christmastime each year through their Old Fashioned Christmas activities.
