This town of around 2,250 people is located around 143 km (88.9 mi.) southwest of Edmonton and 208 km (129.2 mi.) north of Calgary, where Highways 20 and 53 meet. Farming and oil & gas are the main income providers for Rimbey.

Rimbey is situated in the beautiful Blindman River Valley area. Fishing, boating, wildlife viewing, and camping activities are available at Medicine Lake, about 40 km (24.9 mi.) northwest of Rimbey. In town, Pas-Ka-Poo Historical Park gives visitors a view into the past through its two museums, and ten historic buildings including the Trapper's Cabin, Homesteaders Cottage, Train Station, and Blacksmith Shop. Also at Pas-Ka-Poo is the Smithson International Truck Museum with the world's largest collection of international trucks. For more motor sports, Central Alberta Raceways is being built near town which will be a full motor sports park with a drag strip, motorbike oval, race oval, motocross track, demo derby area, and a mud bog.
