Stettler Alberta Travel Information
Stettler is a town of almost 5,250 people, located 101 km (62.8 mi.) east of Red Deer where Highways 12 and 56 meet. Oil & gas and agriculture share the economic base, with local farms featuring a variety of animals including livestock, sheep, llamas, ostriches, buffalo and reindeer. Stettler celebrated its centennial in 2005, and currently is experiencing the largest commercial and residential real estate boom in its history.
History buffs will enjoy the Stettler Town and County Museum which displays artifacts and historical buildings including schools, a church, a store, a house, a courthouse and the CNR station. Tourists can experience a simulated old west train robbery while aboard the Alberta Prairie Railway Excursion train ride. Meanwhile, the Stettler Auction Mart is the oldest livestock auction market in Alberta. Nearby, the Alberta Buffalo Trail leads visitors on a tour of some of Alberta's oldest communities. Camping, fishing, and other outdoors recreational activities are available at several parks in the region.
