Sundre is located in the Alberta foothills of the Canadian Rockies and is about 130 km (80.8 mi.) north west of Calgary. Sundre sits on the banks of Red Deer River. Many of its over 2300 residents are involved in oil & gas, forestry, agriculture, ranching, and the growing tourism industries.

People of all fitness levels will enjoy the almost 25 km (15.5 mi.) of varied walking, biking, and cross country skiing trails near Sundre, with resting benches from which to soak up the views. In town, enjoy the beauty that lead to Sundre winning the 1999 and 2000 Alberta Communities in Bloom for populations under 5000. Or arrive in town in time for the summer or winter festival, or the annual Sundre Pro Rodeo in June complete with Sundre Parade. In any season the indoor pool and water slide beckon swimmers. The town's history and wildlife enthusiasm can be viewed at the Sundre & District Pioneer Village Museum with a 1913 log cabin, historic buildings and many artifacts, and the more than 150 international wildlife taxidermy mounts on view at the Chester Mjolsness World of Wildlife Museum.
