An Alberta summer resort town.
An Alberta summer resort town.
Sylvan Lake is located about halfway between Calgary and Edmonton, and 18 km (11.2 mi.) west of Red Deer. Originally developed around a sawmill, Sylvan Lake was declared a town in 1946. Currently it's one of Canada's fastest growing communities. And the current population of about 8,500 residents swells each year as around 1.3 million visitors pass through town, making tourism the leading industry in Sylvan Lake.
Tourists soak up the sun in Sylvan Lake while swimming, boating, water-skiing and enjoying what is considered one of Canada's ten best beaches. Or ride the Wild Rapids Waterslides. Parks and walking trails around town offer walking opportunities for all fitness levels, and cross-country skiing in the winter. Sylvan Lake calls itself "A Town For All Seasons". In winter the lake freezes, offering skating and other winter sports opportunities. Visitors in February can enjoy the Family Day Winterfest and the Spitz Marathon Speedskate which attract international attendees.
Book early at any of Sylvan Lake's hotels and RV/campgrounds.
